Self-managing your NDIS plan refers to when you take responsibility for managing your NDIS funding. It gives you lots of freedom and flexibility when it comes to shaping your plan and spending your funding, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility.

  • You’ll have the flexibility to use any provider that will help you reach your goal

  • You can employ staff directly

  • You’ll have the option of negotiating the costs of your supports

  • You’ll have the responsibility of managing your budget throughout the year


So, what goes into self managing my plan?


If you choose to self manage, you’ll be completing a wide range of tasks:

  • Researching and purchasing supports and engaging providers

  • Maintaining invoices and receipts

  • Budgeting and ensuring your funding covers the supports that you need

  • Establishing clear agreements with your providers about their level of service

  • Outlining how you’ve utilised your funds to work towards your goals

  • Letting the NDIA of any significant changes to your situation that might impact your ability to self manage your funds


What other options do I have?


While some people thrive self-managing their plan (especially if it aligns with their goals), it’s not for everyone. A plan manager can take the stress out of self-managing your plan, meaning you have more time to pursue your goals and work towards independence.
